For more than a decade, Stockholm artist, producer, and songwriter Yemi has been a fixture of his city’s underground, setting brooding melodic rap against boundary-pushing production. His debut album, Neostockholm, earned Grammis and P3 Guld nominations; since then, he has worked with producers including Gud, A. G. Cook, Misogi, and Eliesg, and played shows from Sweden to the UK and Japan. On Pattern Recognition, his latest and entirely self-produced album, Yemi writes and performs in Japanese for the first time, nearly seven years after he began studying the language.
